Since childhood, Dr. Williams has always been intrigued by science and medicine. She majored in Chemistry during her undergraduate studies and, following graduation, embarked on a successful career as a chemist for many years. After combining her scientific knowledge with her love of nature, plants and herbs, she came to the realization that nature is medicine. By combining her interest in medical science with natural healing interventions, her career as a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine began.

Cupping Treatment
SERVICES OFFERED
ACUPUNCTURE
CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE

Acupuncture treats pain and disease through the shallow insertion and manipulation of very fine, sterile needles into specified points on the human body. Electrical Stimulation may sometimes be incorporated to increase blood flow and stimulate acupuncture points to promote healing throughout the body. The needles typically remain in place for 20 to 30 minutes while the patient rests comfortably. After the needles are removed, several types of additional modalities such as cupping, moxibustion or gua sha may accompany the treatment based on individual needs. Acupuncture is a safe and effective therapy that has been practiced in the East for over 2,500 years to treat pain and disease.

Chinese medicine is generally taken as formulas, which is a combination of herbs that can be ingested as a pill or made into a tea from granules. The length of treatment depends on the unique condition of the patient and whether it is acute or chronic. Chinese medicine does not treat the disease but rather the person. Therefore, herbal recommendations will likely differ between individuals even if they are both presenting with the same condition. It is important to see a trained practitioner in Chinese medicine diagnosis and herbal medicine when using this therapy.

CHINESE MEDICAL MASSAGE

Zheng Gu Tui Na is a therapeutic style of Chinese bodywork that is used to provide relaxation to the deep tissues of the body. Various hand and arm techniques are applied at acupoints, meridians and groups of muscles to encourage the free flow of blood and qi within the body to restore balance.  External liniments and salves may also be applied to enhance healing.

CUPPING AND GUA SHA
MOXIBUSTION

Cupping improves the flow of qi and blood in the tissues by creating a vacuum on the skin that increases circulation.  Cupping can be used to treat both internal conditions such as bronchial congestion or migraines and musculoskeletal issues including back and neck pain.

Gua Sha is a scraping technique applied to the skin that increases circulation and supports the immune system.  It is often perfomed on the neck, shoulders and back to reduce muscle tension and pain.  This technique also encourages lymphatic drainage to support immune system function.

Moxibustion involves the heating of acupuncture points with smoldering mugwort herb (known as moxa). Moxibustion stimulates circulation, counteracts cold and dampness in the body and promotes the smooth flow of blood and qi. This safe, non-invasive technique may be used alone, but it is generally used in conjunction with acupuncture treatment.
